Four workers from Kirk Home Centre have received positive results for COVID-19. All four show no symptoms.
George Town business issued a statement Thursday, 21 May, afternoon, saying they have received a confirmation from the Health Services Authority after all the workers were tested for the virus.
Just hours earlier, Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Lee reported 10 new
COVID-19 cases in Cayman Islands.
According to Government Information Services, the cases “likely represent community-acquired cases and for whom isolation and contact tracing has already begun”.
The total number of
COVID-19 cases in the Cayman Islands is currently 121. The report on Thursday said that a total of 383 tests have been conducted.
Kirk Home Centre is is not the first Cayman business to have
COVID-positive cases.
Al La Kebab was the first restaurant to have a positive virus case. They reported earlier the day that one of the employees had tested positive for
COVID-19.
Not long after that Foster’s issued a statement saying one of its staff member at the Airport branch had caught the virus. Another two employees at the Republix store in West Bay had tested positive for
coronavirus earlier in the week.
Kirk Home Centre said in the statement that the workers will follow the HSA guidelines and place themselves in isolation.
According to the statement: “Our company will ensure that we do everything possible to assist these members of staff during their isolation period. The protection of our staff and customers is our top priority and all members of staff have been required to wear company issued Personal Protective Equipment since we were approved to re-open on 4 May."
“Sanitation protocols are a regular part of the daily routines at the store and each evening a third party janitorial service provides additional cleaning and sanitation in accordance with the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States,” continued the statement.
Kirk Home Centre plans to be open Friday morning, after the premises will go through careful sanitation and disinfection process.
The statement said that all cashiers will be servicing the customers behind a plexiglass screen and all the shopping carts are disinfected regularly throughout the day. Also, hand sanitizer will be available to all customers who enter the store.
