Amazon's Ring Unit Faces Privacy Allegations, Agrees to Pay $5.8M in Settlements
Amazon's Ring unit was accused by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) of violating privacy rules by spying on female customers and failing to delete recordings as requested by parents.
The FTC also alleged that Amazon violated rules protecting children's privacy and deceived consumers who used its Alexa voice assistant.
Amazon agreed to pay $5.8 million in settlements and make changes to its practices.
The fines represent a small fraction of Amazon's profits.
The FTC also reached a separate settlement with Amazon for $25 million over allegations that it violated children's privacy rights by failing to delete Alexa recordings as requested.
