Amazon to Pay $25 Million to Settle Privacy Cases Brought by FTC Against Alexa and Ring
Amazon has agreed to pay millions to settle two privacy cases brought by the US government consumer watchdog, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), against its Alexa and Ring doorbell devices.
The $25m settlement for the case against Alexa raised concerns for children's privacy, as Amazon failed to delete recordings as requested by parents and kept them longer than necessary.
In another case, the FTC alleged Amazon employees had access to customers' sensitive video data through Ring, leading to a $5.8m settlement.
Amazon denies violating the law and emphasizes its commitment to protecting customer privacy.
