Minster for Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Roy McTaggart will deliver the “State of Government Finances” at the Chamber of Commerce 3rd annual Economic Forum, conducted jointly with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.
The event takes place Friday, 14 August 2020 from 8.30 am to 5 pm. In view of
COVID-19 restrictions, for the first time the forum will be conducted on a digital platform.
“This year's theme is ‘Rebuilding a better Cayman', with our speakers tackling the effects that the
COVID-19 pandemic has had on the local and regional economies and how the private and public sectors can work together to create a secure and sustainable future for the Cayman Islands,” said Chamber CEO Wil Pineau,
At the forum, Minister McTaggart will be presenting an overview of Cayman’s economic performance pre-
COVID 19 and revised economic forecasts for the Islands for both 2020 and 2021. He will highlight the impact from Cayman’s response to
COVID-19 on various sectors of the economy as well as key indicators including growth, employment and inflation.
He will also join a panel discussion on the keynote address “The
COVID-19 Recovery – What is the Outlook for the Region” to be delivered by leading economist and advisor on the Caribbean, Ms Marla Dukharan.
“We are almost five months into the Pandemic and the Cayman Islands economy is adjusting to the new realities. It is very important that the public and private sectors maintain an open and collaborative dialogue to develop and implement actions which are appropriate for our Islands and this Economic Forum is an excellent event which allows for the exchange of ideas,” Minister McTaggart commented.
Other presenters from Government are: Deputy Premier and Minister for District Administration, Tourism and Transport, Hon. Moses Kirkconnell who will speak on “RB5 – The Road Back to 500K Air Arrivals”; Minister for Financial Services, Hon. Tara Rivers who will present on “Financial Services – Opportunities for Growth” and Hon. Joey Hew, Minister for Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure whose presentation is on “Cayman 2.0 – What will Drive our Economy in the Future”.
The forum, which has a number of CI business and industry leaders as participants, is open for attendance for registrants at the Chamber website.
