The former president called for the immediate release of a warrant to search his home
Donald Trump has dismissed as a "hoax" suggestions that FBI agents who raided Mar-a-Lago were looking for documents relating to nuclear weapons.
In a statement on Truth Social the former president said: "Nuclear weapons issue is a Hoax, just like Russia, Russia, Russia was a Hoax, two Impeachments were a Hoax, the Mueller investigation was a Hoax, and much more.
"Same sleazy people involved. Why wouldn’t the FBI allow the inspection of areas at Mar-a-Lago with our lawyer’s, or others, present. Made them wait outside in the heat, wouldn’t let them get even close - said 'ABSOLUTELY NOT.' Planting information anyone?"
The Washington Post reported that agents had been looking for classified nuclear-related documents, although it was unclear if such material was found.
An informant at Mar-a-Lago was believed to have tipped off the FBI before the search.
Mr Trump's statement came as the US Justice Department asked a judge to make public the warrant authorising the raid.
The Justice Department decision was a response to Republican calls to let the American people see the warrant.
The search of Mr Trump's Florida home was part of an investigation into whether he illegally removed records from the White House as he left office in January 2021, some of which the Justice Department believes are classified.
Attorney General Merrick Garland, the top US law enforcement officer, and an appointee of President
Joe Biden, said he had personally approved the search.
Mr Trump also called for the immediate publication of the warrant.
He said: "Not only will I not oppose the release of documents related to the unAmerican, unwarranted, and unnecessary raid and break-in of my home in Palm Beach, Florida, Mar-a-Lago, I am going a step further by ENCOURAGING the immediate release of those documents.
"Even though they have been drawn up by radical left Democrats and possible future political opponents, who have a strong and powerful vested interest in attacking me, much as they have done for the last 6 years…"
