Foreign Minister asks European ministers to stop using Panama as a "scapegoat"
Panamanian Foreign Minister Erika Mouynes participated this Tuesday in a virtual meeting with ministers of the European Union, in which she told them that "Panama cannot continue to be a scapegoat."
This in reference to the inclusion of Panama in gray lists of various European jurisdictions and organizations, for alleged deficiencies against money laundering and financing of terrorism.
There is no justifiable correlation in the way we are treated and harmed, and the reality of our international financial services system, Mouynes said, according to a note from the Foreign Ministry.
Mouynes said that many accusations they launch against the country are unfounded, and that the opacity problems do not lie in the country.
