Magnitude 6.5 earthquake off the west coast of Nicaragua
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that, "based on all available data there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake."
A shallow earthquake of magnitude 6.5 was registered this Wednesday off the west coast of Nicaragua , indicated the United States Geological Survey ( USGS ), which ruled out any risk of a tsunami.
The earthquake took place 78 kilometers southwest of Jiquilillo, reported the USGS, which had initially estimated its magnitude at 6.7, before reviewing it and setting it at 6.5.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that, "based on all available data there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake."
In its initial report, the USGS further said that "there is a low probability of casualties and damages."
