Nokia and NASA will install the first mobile phone network on the Moon
The Finnish group Nokia announced on Monday that it will manufacture for NASA the first operational mobile phone network on the Moon, an initiative carried out for the project to establish a permanent human base of the US space agency.
This 4G network, ultra-compact, energy efficient and resistant to space conditions, will represent "the first mobile phone network on the Moon," Nokia said in a statement.
The Finnish group specified that the network will be installed on the surface of the star from the end of 2022, through a lunar lander in which the US company Intuitive Machines works.
The Nasa confirmed to AFP that will be the first mobile phone network on the Moon, where the human being set foot for the last time in 1972.
The network, which will self-configure during its deployment on the Moon, will guarantee a wireless connection for any activity that astronauts must perform, allowing the exchange of voice and video communications, telemetry and the exchange of biometric data or even the deployment and the use of robots, reported the Finnish company.
The contract, for a total of 14.1 million dollars, was awarded to Nokia's US subsidiary, which won a series of cutting-edge projects announced on Friday by NASA.
