Returning to the Office? Let Sydney’s Street Style Stars Be Your Outfit Inspiration

Returning to the Office? Let Sydney’s Street Style Stars Be Your Outfit Inspiration

Forgot how to dress for in-person professional settings? Let Sydney’s street style crew guide you in making a stylish return.

Last week at Sydney Fashion Week, the sartorial set flocked to the Resort 2022 shows. And because it’s winter down there, street style photos revealed showgoers sporting layers and sharp but soft tailoring combined with smart, commuter-friendly accessories. For us back in New York, the images served as the ultimate inspiration for our imminent return to the office this fall.

There were plenty of tailored trousers, a relaxed yet polished look that bodes well for a comfortable transition out of work from home, and a handful of lovely oversized blazers-a true office staple. And per those down in Sydney, we don’t have to give up our leggings just yet, so long as we choose a more elevated pair like one with slits on the hem. On the accessory front, chic, oversized tote bags that can also carry your laptop are a must and sneakers are still cool, especially when paired with a striped blouse and white pants. Block heel and slingback pumps are also making a triumphant return.

If you’re not quite ready to return to the office, these put-together looks might just make you feel differently. Whether you’re going in a few days a week or plan to make a full return come fall, let the Sydney Fashion Week street style stars be your guide to showing up in style.

Transitional Styling

With the addition of a chic blazer and long skirt, summertime accessories like canvas beach carryalls and strappy sandals can be office-appropriate. Bonus points if your tote can fit your laptop!

Commuter Cool

Get back to basics in a pair of trousers, commuter-friendly sneakers, a button-up shirt, and a trench coat—a stylish combination of on-the-go wardrobe staples.

Running Late?

A sweater, trouser, and a pair of classic pumps is an effortless outfit formula to have on hand for those mornings that just don’t go your way.

Dress to Impress

Add a little oomph to the no-fail black suit by playing with proportions. An oversized blazer and slick, split hem leggings should do the trick.

Temperature Controlled

Arctic-like air conditioning in the office? Layer your knit lounge pants from the work-from-home days under crisp poplin dresses for a smart, layered look.

Casual Fridays

You can’t go wrong at work in a pair of tailored, pleated trousers; add a leather belt and a tucked-in t-shirt for a more casual take on the office wardrobe classic, and don’t forget your phone.
