Amidst water games, scorching sun, non-toxic portable smoke machines, and techno music, Rick Owens' presents his Men's Spring/Summer 2022 collection on the shoreline of the Lido di Venezia beach. This collection marks an increasingly important commitment of the designer on issues of production responsibility, with the use of upcycled and GOTS-certified fabrics.
According to the designer, this collection marks the conclusion of his four-part coronavirus series. In line with the end of national lockdowns and the reopening of businesses, the series of garments boast an air of reunion-with the world, family, friends, etc.
"This will be our fourth and last show of the COVID era, which, for the Rick Owens Men's Spring/Summer 2022 Collection, took place on the beach of Lido di Venezia where I live half of the year and where my team can reach me and our packaging company relatively quickly," explains Owen. "Doing live shows seemed like the right thing to do in this difficult time. I felt like I was doing something more resized, intimate, honest, and raw doing live stream shows on the beach in front of my house was like a retreat, and absolutely not a defeat. In the lead-up to the post-COVID era, there could be a roar of frustrated appetites, demanding to be doubly satisfied this summer. The risk is that of forgetting an experience of shared humility that we have all lived. This collection embraces hedonism, but it does it in a soft way."
