Amazon Employees Stage Walkout Over Climate Policy, Layoffs, and Return-to-Office Mandate
On Wednesday, Amazon employees in Seattle staged a walkout to protest the company's changes to its climate policy, layoffs, and the return-to-office mandate.
Over 100 employees gathered at the Spheres, the glass-domed monument at the heart of Amazon's headquarters.
The protest was organized by an activist group known as Amazon Employees for Climate Justice (AECJ), which claims that Amazon has taken steps in the wrong direction, including eliminating a goal to make all Amazon shipments net zero for carbon emissions by 2030.
The company has also announced layoffs of 27,000 employees, or 9% of its corporate workforce, and a return-to-office mandate by May 1.
Amazon released a statement saying that it is pushing hard to cut its carbon emissions and remains on track to get to 100% renewable energy by 2025.
