Nana is located about 250 kilometers (155 miles) east of Belize City with sustained winds of 95 km / h (60 mph), the United States National Hurricane Center reported. The storm is moving at 15 mph (24 km / h) and is expected to strengthen during the day, making landfall in Belize as a hurricane at dusk Wednesday or early Thursday.
Belize had issued a hurricane watch for its coast. In the afternoon, Nana was located 110 kilometers (65 miles) northeast of the Honduran island of Roatán, a popular tourist destination.
Heavy rains are expected in Belize, as well as in northern Honduras and throughout Guatemala when the storm crosses the isthmus on Thursday.
