UGLAND PROPERTIES OPENS 556 PANEL SOLAR ARRAY IN GEORGE TOWN

Ugland Properties held an opening ceremony on Wednesday to celebrate the completion of a 10,395 sq ft Solar Array featuring 556 Panasonic panels on the rooftop of the Harbour Place parkade in George Town. The Opening Ceremony was attended by His Excellency Governor Martyn Roper, and the Hon. Minister Joseph (Joey) Hew, who switched on the Solar Array. This installation is currently the third largest in the Cayman Islands.

“The Ugland property companies have been working to adopt green energy sources to limit our carbon emissions on the island and are pleased to announce the installation of a 10,395 sq ft Solar Array on the rooftop of the Harbour Place parkade in George Town. The Array will feature approximately 556 Panasonic panels providing covered parking for our tenants, and 355mWhs (megawatt) of electricity generated from renewable sources.” said Andreas Ove Ugland.

The hurricane rated solar array, built by the NCB Group will be capable of generating 355mWhs (megawatt) of electricity per year which equates to a reduction of 235 tons of CO2 emissions per annum. The benefits to incorporating solar energy in an overall energy strategy are not only substantial for business and home owners, but also for the environment.

“NCB Group is extremely proud to be a part of this innovative solar installation on the roof top of Harbour Place,” states Matthew Wight, Managing Director of NCB Group. “The Harbour Place system will provide significant cost reductions, energy cost predictability, and sustainability gains in addition to reducing the dependence on grid electricity. We applaud Ugland Properties for this shared commitment to Cayman’s future and helping to reduce our carbon footprint.”

Business Development Executive, Nickolai M. Ugland added, “Along with switching to low energy devices, sustainable landscaping, and recycling with external service providers, the companies will continue to explore and implement further improvements to limit carbon emissions. In addition to the environmental benefits, which are of increasing importance, we are committed to continually investing in, and improving, our office campus in George Town.”

To complement this installation, Ugland Properties will be testing the demand for Electric Vehicle Charging stations by installing several stations for tenant use, a number which will be increased should demand require it.

“We want to commend Ugland Properties and the NCB Group on this bold initiative. Improving energy security is important to our Islands and so it is a positive step forward when we have stakeholders, such as the private sector, making these types of investment. This project aligns well with our National Energy Policy which calls for us to increase the usage of renewable energy from 0.9% to 70% by 2037,” states Hon. Joey Hew, Minister of Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure.”

“We would like to give a special thank you to Matthew Wight, Steven Schiffbauer, and the NCB team for their outstanding planning and attention to detail during the entire project, and we look forward to working with them in the future” concluded Nickolai.
