Warning: Venemous Portuguese man o war in our waters
The Department of the Environment warns that a Portuguese Man O’ War was spotted floating in the North Sound on Sunday morning.
Be warned- The long tentacles of this creature deliver a painful sting, which is venomous and powerful enough to kill fish and can even kill humans.
Its venom-filled nematocysts paralyze and kill fish and other small creatures and for humans, even though it is rarely lethal, the sting is excruciatingly painful.
Beware-even dead man-of-wars washed up on shore can deliver a sting.
