WORC Training Programmes for unemployed coming soon

At the COVID-19 Update press conference today, Friday, 19 June 2020, WORC National Training and Development Manager, Ms Diane Conolly highlighted WORC training programmes underway for unemployed Caymanians.


The details as provided by Ms Conolly are as given below.

Ready2Work KY Programme

  1. Overall goal of the programme (tied to a Government Strategic Goal)

    Broad Outcome: Achieving Full Employment – Jobs for All Caymanians

    Action Item: Extend the Ready2Work.Ky programme to support unemployed Caymanians into long-term employment;

  2. Few (2-3) objectives of the programme

    1. a. Ready2Work KY is a pathway to employment and a public/private initiative that supports employers as they make best efforts to employ Caymanians and support unemployed Caymanians as they seek to access employment.
    2. Addresses both the direct and indirect barriers to employment through support services for job seekers as they seek to access and maintain employment.
    3. Provides training and development opportunities for those who require tooling and upskilling, the development of employability skills and soft skills training in access and maintain long-term employment.

  3. Intended target group

    1. Caymanians (17 years of age and older)

  4. Start date of programme

    1. Applications now being accepted. Applicants are required to register with WORC JobsCayman
    2. Training sessions to start 27 July 2020

  5. Duration of programme for an individual

    1. 2 weeks Employability 101 training followed by
    2. 6 months placement with a business

  6. Number of programme participants who have inquired and signed up to-date

    1. Inquired: 130 (Since Friday 12th)
    2. b. Signed up: 20 have submitted applications

  7. Number of employers who have expressed interest in participating to-date

    1. 10 Businesses

  8. How employers can participate

    2. Must be a position that has long term employment opportunity

  11. Deadline reminders

    1. Facilitators: Request for Supplier Qualifications – Deadline for submissions: Extended to 26 June 2020.
    2. Invites to Register with the R2WKY Programme and Expression of Interest Forms.

      1. Available to interested Job Seekers on a rolling submissions basis
      2. Available to Employers with an initial deadline of 17 July 2020 for the first round.

    3. Training Sessions Employability 101 (E101) Training Sessions Scheduled to start: 27 July 2020

      1. Training Calendar will be available online: 13 July 2020

  12. PASSPORT2SUCCESS

    Overall goal of the programme (tied to a Government Strategic Goal)

    Broad Outcome: Achieving Full Employment – Jobs for All Caymanians

    Action Items:

  • Work with the private sector to increase the opportunities for work based training programmes for the under 25s including apprenticeships;

  • Few (2-3) objectives of the programme

    1. Increasing employment skills for Caymanians, while addressing barriers to employment such as attitude and behavior
    2. Develop work place readiness skills and address psycho-social-emotional issues.
    3. Engage in employment seeking activities, such as job shadowing, internships and apprenticeships.

  • Intended target group: Caymanians

    1. Single Parents
    2. 15-17 Year Summer Programme – for recent graduates
    3. 17 – 24 years old
    4. Special Needs

  • Start date of programme

    1. Cohort#31 starts on June 22, 2020 via Zoom.
    2. 20 Participants accepted
    3. Cohort #32  for 15-17 year old- deadline for application 24 July 2020 – Starts October 5th

  • Duration of programme for an individual

    1. Summer and Special Needs – 8 weeks
    2. Single Parents/ 17-24 – 16 weeks

  • Number of programme participants who have inquired and signed up to-date

    1. 21 persons have signed up and registered with Jobs Cayman

  • Number of employers who have expressed interest in participating to-date

    1. Signed up/ consistent supporters: 6

    • Support workplace training and lifelong learning to ensure skills development keeps pace with technological and other developments;

  • Few (2-3) objectives of the programme

    1. Inspire Cayman

      1. Provides financial literacy combined with the core skills for those seeking employment in the trades includes recognized industry certification.

    2. Marriott (future) – Front Office Certification

      1. Provides industry specific training for Caymanians seeking employment within the Tourism and Hospitality Industry.

    3. Computer Training – partnered with IMPT

      1. Provides computer skills training includes basic keyboarding, to more advanced Word, Excel and Email.

    4. CEC – Cayman Code Academy (future)

      1. Provides training to those interested in software development, coding and web development.

    5. UCCI – TVET Programmes (future)

      1. In partnership with UCCI provide Caymanians access to TVET programmes and certification.

    6. ICCI – GED (future)

      1. In partnership with ICCI provide Caymanians who haave not completed high school the opportunity to complete their GED.

    7. WineSchoool 3- Shaker International Bartendering

      1. Intended for those seeking to enter a career within the hospitality industry, with both practical and theoretical knowledge and recognized certification.

  • Intended target group

    1. Caymanians 17 years of age and older

  • Start date of programme

    1. Inspire Cayman – Aiming for a July start.
    2. Marriott – Aiming for a July start
    3. All other courses to be confirmed

  • Number of programme participants who have inquired and signed up to-date
