The Minister of Communications and Works in the British Virgin Islands, Hon
Kye Rymer, has expressed that the territory's infrastructure requires urgent attention but the financing is not available to cover the multiple needs.
He stated that the annual budget of $400M is not enough to cover the water, road, and other pressing needs in his ministry, which includes water, roads, Administration Complex, Burt Point Sewage Plant, East End Long Look Sewage Plant.
He mentioned that there is only $12 to $16 million budgeted for any development projects in his ministry.
The Minister stated that they will be issuing an expression of interest to obtain the services of a reputable and qualified company to replace and upgrade the water distribution network through a public-private partnership engagement.
He also committed that the Burt Point Sewage Plant will be up and running by summer this year and other works include the asphalt plant coming on stream which will help with the resurfacing of roads which are in dire need of assistance.
